The final shortlist for the “Best Job in the World” has been announced and - continuing their inconsistency in following any kind of pre-defined structure for their recruitment process - Tourism Queensland have opted to shortlist 16 instead of 11 candidates. Naturally, the videos for 12 of these shortlisted candidates exceed 60 seconds.
Final Shortlist Announced!
April 3rd, 2009World’s Greatest Shave
March 6th, 2009I needed a haircut and I hadn’t even shaved my beard for a while so it seemed like a good opportunity to take care of both.
I’m taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave 2009. Please sponsor me! The funds we raise will help the Leukaemia Foundation to provide practical care and support to patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. Thanks to everyone’s generosity I’ve raised about $2500 so far and it all came off on March 14th. Reach into your pockets let’s see how close we can get to $3000!
Donations are open until March 30th and all donations over $2 by Australian residents are tax deductible.

40 rejected videos posted so far!
March 6th, 2009So far, there are 40 rejected videos posted at this site (link on this page). While many were rejected for exceeding 60 seconds (though in most cases they do not), bizarrely one was rejected because the applicant did not speak while another was rejected for speaking in another language for two seconds of the video. What if the former applicant had been mute? Sounds like discrimination to me! Keep sending in those links to your videos!!!
Shortlist Announced!
March 3rd, 2009The shortlist of applicants for the Best Job in the World was announced today. Congratulations to those who made the shortlist!
However, out of the 50 videos to make the shortlist, 35 (including the current wildcard leader, Clare, at 60.36 seconds) are in excess of 60 seconds with the longest being exactly 61 seconds. These 35 entries are presented in the gallery below. Only three of the videos are shorter than 59 seconds, with the shortest coming in at around 55 seconds so providing a shorter video to ensure you came well under the 60 second cut-off hardly proved to be beneficial.
About 5000 applicants were notified, only after the closing date had passed so that they could not resubmit, that their applications were rejected due to their video exceeding 60 seconds. Many of those were between 59 and 61 seconds and were rejected due to inconsistencies in Tourism Queensland’s application approval process.
